Jun 8 - San Jose May Require All Recyclers to Become E-Stewards Certified
Last week at San Jose's Rules & Open Government Committee meeting, City Council member Ash Kaltra sponsored a proposal (.pdf) to place stricter regulations on e-waste recyclers. The committee voted unanimously on this proposal that requires all local e-waste recyclers be certified to the e-Stewards Standard.
The proposal will next go before the Transportation & Environmental Committee prior to a council vote. This is the first time a municipality has considered making certification a requirement for doing business.
The new e-Stewards program so far has certified only three recyclers: Newport Computers of New Hampshire, Redemtech of Ohio and WeRecycle! of Connecticut.
