Oct 28 - Alberta Bottle Deposit Law Expanded to Include Milk

Alberta became the first North American government to require a container deposit fee on all milk products, reports the Calgary Herald. Alberta Environment Minister Rob Renner defended the move against opposition by dairy producers:

I believe very strongly that the evidence speaks for itself. containers that have deposits have a high success rate, albeit it needs to be higher. The containers that don't have a deposit -- the voluntary program is not working as well.

Alberta also increased the redemption value to 10 Canadian cents for 1 liter and under containers and 25 Canadian cents for larger containers.
