Aug 26 - Biodegradable Ban Bill Passes Legislature

SB 1454 DeSaulnier passed out of the legislature yesterday and now awaits action by Governor Schwarzenegger. SB 1454 prohibits all plastic from being labeled as "biodegradable" and requires that products with legitimate claims pass ASTM standard specifications for those claims.

The bill explicitly prohibits "biodegradable" and "biodegradable in a landfill" because these claims are inherently dishonest and implicitly violate the Federal Trade Commission's Green Guides.
