Mar 13 - Sonoma Co. Holds Meetings On Regional Bag Ban

Share

The Sonoma County Waste Management Agency is holding several meetings this month to obtain community input on a regional single-use bag ordinance. The first meeting was held yesterday evening in Petaluma and tonight's meeting is in Santa Rosa.

City Councils at seven of the incorporated cities as well as at the County’s Board of Supervisors have expressed support for the effort, which would charge the agency to conduct an environmental impact assessment and draft a regional bag ordinance for the unincorporated county as well as incorporated areas.

However, the Cities of Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park are still undecided. Their approval is needed in order for the agency to move forward. The agency’s board is expected to review the feedback from these meetings next month.

In 2012, regional bag ordinances covering incorporated and unincorporated areas have been passed in both Alameda County and San Luis Obispo County. See the full list of bag bans on our website.
