The latest victim at the Surabaya Zoo in Indonesia is the zoo's only giraffe.

After several days of illness, the giraffe passed away on March 1. Autopsy results revealed 44 pounds of plastic food wrappers in its stomach contents, clumped together in a large mass.

The giraffe likely consumed the plastic litter that was in its living quarters, some swept in from surrounding areas and others thrown in deliberately by zoo visitors.

According to this article, the zoo has a troubled past due to early deaths of some of its other animals. Although the giraffe was 30 years old when it died, the amount of plastic it ate and retained in its body, is disturbing.
