Apr 2 - Bag Bans Moving in Northern CA

The month of April is expected to see more bag ban votes, particularly in the Mendocino County area.

Three single-use bag ordinances are being considered for the cities of Ukiah and Fort Bragg, as well as for unincorporated Mendocino County.

The ordinances would apply to all retail stores, banning plastic bags and requiring a minimum 10 cent charge per paper bag. The first phase could go into effect as early as six months from adoption.

The Ukiah Daily Journal is on board with the proposal, noting that the superchain Walmart had sucessfully experimented with a voluntary plastic bag ban in Ukiah. The Ukiah City Council will vote on its bag ban on April 18.
