May 23 - Plastic Bag Bill Headed to Senate Floor
SB 405 (Padilla) passed out of fiscal committee today and will be on the Senate floor for a vote next week. This important bill would ban single-use plastic bags statewide and promote recycled paper and reusables.
Passage of this bill would result in huge benefits to California’s economy and environment. It will reduce the tens of millions in plastic bag litter clean up costs that are currently falling on taxpayers, and reduce the risk of ingestion or entanglement posed to wildlife.
Today’s vote was an important step, but we have to stay focused as SB 405 heads for a crucial vote on the senate floor, which has traditionally been the biggest hurdle. The time to act is now if you support a ban on single-use plastic bags in California!
