Apr 8 - First Bag Ban Passed In Puerto Rico
According to the Associated Press, the municipality of Rincon is the first on the island of Puerto Rico to ban plastic shopping bags. Rincon is located on the northwestern part of Puerto Rico, a US territory.
The ban applies to all Rincon businesses starting February 2015. Recycled content paper bags can be sold to customers who do not bring their own bags.
Plastic bag pollution negatively impacts marine life, tourism, waste management efforts, and local government funds that must be used to clean up this litter. Even when properly placed into trash bins, plastic bags can get blown away into the environment. Learn more.
