Jun 11 - San Anselmo Adopts Plastic Bag Ban
San Anselmo adopted a city-wide plastic bag ordinance after a second reading at a town council meeting last night, June 10th, 2014. Ordinance #1029 goes into effect January 1st, 2015 and will prohibit supermarkets, convenience stores, and liquor stores from providing single-use plastic carryout bags, and requires a 10 cent charge on recycled paper bags and reusable bags. More about the ordinance and its journey can be found in our previous blog post.
Thank you to San Anselmo elected officials and residents for helping to achieve this instrumental progress. This is the 109th city or county in California to have an adopted bag ban.
The state of California hopes to implement plastic bag legislation such as this on a state-wide level through SB 270, the state bag bill, which will grandfather local ordinances such as San Anselmo's. Learn more about SB270, and take action to support.
