Aug 6 - Latest Bag Ban Adopted in Pleasant Hill

On the same day that the California state legislature returned from its month long summer break on Monday, the City of Pleasant Hill adopted the newest local bag ordinance in the state.

The city's ordinance bans single-use plastic grocery bags and allows the sale of single-use paper and reusable bags in all retail stores and restaurants. An increasing number of local governments are taking action against plastic bag pollution due to the high cleanup and waste management costs, as well as the related negative impact to our environment and wildlife.

Pleasant Hill (population roughly 34,000) is located in the East Bay, in Contra Costa County.

There are now 114 cities or counties with an adopted bag ban, while the fate of the statewide bill will be determined later this month. Learn more about SB 270.
