Feb 16 - CIWMB Approves $4.5 million in HHW Grants

The California Integrated Waste Management Board voted this week to make $4.5 million in grant funding available for local programs to help cities and counties better handle common materials that cannot be dumped in landfills, including hazardous e-waste. CAW estimates that the State Department of Toxics Substances Control recent e-waste disposal ban could cost local agencies in California in excess of $280 million annually unless policy makers step up and enact extended producer responsibility  policies such as the existing ARF program for computer monitors and TVS and Takeback requirements for cell phones and rechargeable batteries.
