Mar 20 - Marin Reports on The Hidden Costs of Plastic

The Marin Independent Journal has noted that cities are taking note of plastic bags. In fact, if you are in Novato on March 30th, you might have a chance to attend a presentation by the nonprofit environmental group, Green Sangha, discussing, "The Hidden Costs of Plastic". Says Stuart Moody, a presenter at the upcoming meeting and member of Green Sangha.

"Plastic waste pollutes our cities… Even (plastic) bags that are properly discarded blow out of trash bins, garbage trucks and landfill sites. The California Coastal Commission reports that 60 to 80 percent of the debris recovered each year on its Coastal Clean-Up Day is plastic." Read More…

In addition to providing facts on the use of plastics and plastic bags in our society, Green Sangha members will introduce a proposal on what Marin County can do to address this troubling aspect of the waste stream.

CAW has been actively engaged with Green Sangha in discussing current plastics issues and is an avid supporter of their efforts. For more information on recent efforts on plastics, call to talk with Green Sangha members at (415) 457-0802 or take a look at recent CAW legislation relating to plastic waste.
