Sept 30 - Governor Signs Plastic Bag Recycling Bill!

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed into law legislation requiring most grocers and other retailers to take back and recycle plastic bags.

AB 2449 by Assembly Member Lloyd Levine is aimed at reducing and recycling the more than 19 billion plastic bags distributed by California grocers annually. Less than 5% of plastic bags are currently recycled.

AB 2449 is supported by Californians Against Waste, the Sea Turtle Restoration Project, the Planning & Conservation League, the California League of Conservation Voters, Friends of the LA River and other environmental and recycling groups.
