Dec 4 - New Committee Chairs as Legislative Session Begins

The new legislative session began yesterday as 80 Assembly Members and 20 Senators were sworn into office. Of those sworn in, 34 members are new to the California State Legislature.

Speaker Fabian Núñez also announced the chairs for all the Assembly committees. One notable new chair is newly elected Asm. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, who will chair the Assembly Environmental Safety & Toxic Materials. Asm. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, will be the new chair of the Appropriations Committee. Asm. Loni Hancock, D-Berkeley, will continue as the Natural Resources Committee chair.
