Jan 1 - New Year Changes and Tree Recycling!

Starting January 1, 2007, the Consumer Refund Value (CRV) paid to consumers for beverage containers will increase to 5 cents for containers under 24 ounces and 10 cents for those 24 ounces and greater. The change is from Gov. Schwarzenegger signing AB 3056 last year. The change will not affect the current CRV payment at grocery stores and will stay at 4¢ for beverage containers under 24 oz. and 8¢ for containers 24 oz. until at least June 30, 2007.

On July 1, 2007, if an overall recycling rate of 75% has not been reached in the 2006 calendar year, consumers will then pay 5 cents for beverage containers under 24 oz. and 10 cents for containers 24 oz. and greater that they purchase in California.

It's also not too late to recycle that Christmas tree that you haven't taken down yet. Most counties in the state are offering recycling opportunities until this week. Check out the CIWMB's website for links to the closest tree recycling location near you. If there isn't a place near you, check out the site for ideas on what to do with your unwanted tree.
