Jan 12 - Chesbro Returns!

CAW, along with much of the environmental and recycling community in California were ecstatic last week when we learned that The Senate Rules Committee had appointed recently termed out Senator Wes Chesbro to serve on the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

This is of course a return trip to the CIWMB for Chesbro, who helped build the 'new' board in the early 1990's following the passage of AB 939. In those days, Chesbro was often the lone Champion for waste reduction and recycling, much as he had been the lone champion of environmental protection and resource conservation on the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors throughout the 1980's.

But Chesbro's involvement with waste reduction and recycling goes back even farther than that. Wes is truly one of the 'founding fathers' of recycling in California. In the early 1970's he helped found the Arcata Community Recycling Center, which remains today, one of the countries most successful community recycling institutions, as well as the 'incubator' for dozens of recycling policy leaders.

Today, Wes joins fellow 'founding father' Gary Petersen, as a member of California's waste prevention and recycling policy board.
