Mar 9 - CRRA to Discuss Methane Landfill Emissions

The Folsom-based California Resource Recovery Association will be having a workshop March 19 in Sacramento discussing methane emissions from landfills. Scott Smithline, Policy Analyst at CAW, will be a speaker.

The CCRA a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting waste reduction, reuse, recycling, pollution prevention, and composting.

"Landfills are a significant source of manmade methane emissions in California. Methane is created when organic materials...therefore, one way to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California would be to ban organic materials such as yard trimmings and food scraps from landfill disposal or use."

According to the CIWMB, 30% of California's waste stream is comprised of organics.
