May 4 - Massachusetts State Senator to Introduce Bag Fee Bill

Massachusetts state Senator Brian Joyce plans to introduce legislation into the state legislature that would implement a fee on shopping plastic bags distributed at stores with profits greater than $1 million. The mandatory fee would begin at 2 cents per bag in 2008 and increase to 15 cents per bag by 2014. Furthermore, the Associated Press reports that the Boston City Council is considering an outright ban on plastic bags in certain stores.
