May 24 - Laguna Beach Considers Polystyrene Takeout Packaging Ban

The Orange County city of Laguna Beach, which already has a ban on polystyrene food packaging in place for county franchises, will soon consider whether to extend that ban to the private sector.

Laguna Beach's water quality director David Shissler told Jeff Overly of the Orange County Register that polystyrene is akin to asbestos in that it is an effective product but one whose environmental costs are too high.Â

"It's kind of like banning asbestos. It was such an effective product, but it was found to be a problem."
