May 31 - Pharmaceutical Bill Passes Through the Senate

SB 966 (Simitian) passed out of the full Senate on reconsideration today with a 21-13 vote. The bill establishes a safe disposal mechanism for pharmaceuticals by providing convenient opportunities for consumers to return unused pharmaceuticals to large pharmacies for proper disposal. SB 966 is supported by local governments, environmental groups and other organizations. The bill previously failed on the Senate Floor by one vote, but received enough votes today to pass and SB 966 now heads to the Assembly.
