Jun 21 - CARB Board Meeting

Today, the ARB held a board meeting in Los Angeles, at which they adopted a list of discrete Early Action Measures. They adopted three groups of early actions, but only the three measures in group one have to be implemented by the statutory deadline of January 1, 2010.

One of these three measures would require the installation of methane capture systems at landfills that do not currently have these systems. This is a good first step, but the board has chosen not to expand this measure to include improving the efficiency of all landfills or diverting organics from landfills, as CAW had suggested. The board has also decided not to include composting and recycling as discrete early actions.
