Jul 2 - Multifamily Recycling Bill Moves Closer to Governor's Desk

CAW-sponsored AB 548 (Levine), which would require owners of multifamily residences to provide for recycling services, passed off the Senate Floor 21-13. It must be heard again in the Assembly Floor for concurrence of minor amendments before it can head to the Governor's desk.

While nearly 70 percent of Californians living in single family homes have access to curbside recycling, no more than 40 percent of those living in multi-family dwellings have access to a residential recycling opportunity. Expanding curbside recycling to multifamily dwellings could divert an additional 329,000 tons of recyclable materials.
