Nov 21 - Final CCAR Landfill Protocol Posted

This morning, CCAR posted a final version of the landfill GHG protocol.

CAW had originally supported this protocol based on the inclusion of language that would make the protocol ineffective if incentives for recycling, composting, and waste reduction weren’t implemented (see our previous blog entry). Due to the subsequent softening of this language, CAW will be withdrawing our support for the protocol.

Nonetheless, we are encouraged by the Registry’s commitment to developing strong protocols that quantify the greenhouse gas benefits of diverting materials from landfills. We appreciate the efforts of their staff and look forward to working with them on these protocols in the near term.
