Nov 28 - Greenpeace Spurs Electronics Makers to Phase Out PVC
Electronics manufacturers are already responding to GreenPeace's Greener Electronics Guide (See Previous News Item), a chief criteria of which was whether electronics contained toxic PVC. Phillips communication director Andrew Goldman told the Arthur Max of the Associated Press that his company would re-look at its product line in light of the report:
Goldman said Philips, which scored 17th, had formulated green policies as long ago as the 1970s and announced a program in September to expand its portfolio of green products. "But we are not in a position to be complacent. We need to do more, and it's becoming more of an issue.
Max reports that Appleâ€"which previously had ranked lastâ€"has increased its rankings this year by pledging to remove PVC plastic from its products.
