Dec 10 - LA City Council Adopts 'Day Without A Bag'

The Los Angeles City Council has declared December 20 as "Day Without a Bag" and will urge shoppers to use reusable bags instead of disposable bags. Californians use up to 19 billion plastic shopping bags every year, many of which because dangerous marine debris pollution. Several other municipalities, including the City of Long Beach, plan to participate in the event, which is being organized by partner organization Heal the Bay, based in Santa Monica.

Los Angeles County is currently considering requiring grocers to reduce plastic bag disposal rates by 35% by 2010 or face a ban.
