Jan 14 - LA County to Vote Soon on Plastic Bag Phase-Out

Los Angeles County is set to vote on a measure that would require retailers to drastically reduce their disposal rate of plastic bags through 2013 or face an automatic plastic bag ban. The measure, which has been crafted by county agencies in consultation with environmental groupsâ€"including CAWâ€"and retailers, would require a 35% reduction in bag disposal by 2010 and a 70% reduction in bag disposal by 2013. The LA County Board will vote on the measure Tuesday, Jan 22. There may be opportunities for the public to testify at the meeting.
