Dec 16 - NY Signs Plastic Bag Recycling Bill
New York Governor David Paterson has signed a bill that requires large retailers to offer free plastic bag recycling. The bill, similar to California's AB 2449, grandfathered New York City's standing plastic bag recycling law. Governor Paterson spoke of the need to protect the environment even in trying economic times:
Even during difficult times we must be protective stewards of our environment, and continue to find ways to keep our daily routines from negatively impacting the long-term health of the planet. By making changes in our daily lives and business practices, we can conserve natural resources, save energy and reduce our ecological footprint.
