Feb 5 - Court Upholds Federal Phthalate Ban

A judge has ordered that stores may not distribute children's toys containing phthalates beginning next Tuesday, striking down an interpretation by the Consumer Product Safety Commission that the Feb 10 implementation date of the new law applied only to manufacturers, not retailers. The 2008 bill, authored by Senator Dianne Feinstein, banned the use of certain toxic plasticizers in children's toys and lowered allowed lead content.
