Apr 14 - Producer Responsibility Bill Advances to Second Environmental Committee
AB 2139, the product stewardship bill for medical sharps, pesticides, and nonrefillable propane tanks, passed the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxics Materials Committee on 4/13 with a 6-3 vote. It will next be heard in Assembly Natural resources on Monday the 19th.
Also, in the same upcoming hearing is AB 2398, carpet product stewardship bill by Assemblymember John Perez. Currently, carpet recycling rate is at 4%, and used carpet are bulky and consume significant landfill space in California. This measure will create incentives for manufacturers to 1) design safer products that have less environmental impacts and are easier to recycle; and 2) provide businesses and consumers with convenient recycling opportunities for carpet.
