May 28 - Plastic Bag Ban Bill Passes Out of Committee
The Plastic Bag Ban Bill, AB 1998 (Brownley), passed out of fiscal committee today and now heads to an Assembly Floor vote next week. Californians use 19 billion single-use plastic bags every year, many of which are littered and become plastic litter pollution. AB 1998 would eliminate a large source of this litter pollution.
AB 2138 (Chesbro), which would have phased out foamed polystyrene food packaging, was held in committee.
