Jun 4 - Product Stewardship Bill Stalls

Share

Sadly, AB 2139 (Chesbro), the Producer Stewardship Framework Bill, stalled on the Assembly Floor yesterday in a 30-31 vote. But this only delays the inevitable movement towards real product stewardship wherein producers who profit from the sale of goods are made responsible for the potential harm their products do to the environment and to human health.

AB 2139 would have required producers of products to create product stewardship plans if said products were deemed by CalRecycle to either 1) be a significant threat to public health and safety when disposed; or 2) pose a threat of increased greenhouse gas emissions; and or 3) imposes significant end-of-life management costs on state or local government.
