Jan 25 - Marin County and City of Santa Monica Both Pass Their Plastic Bag Bans Unanimously
*Updated January 26, 2011
The end of 2010 saw the successful passage of two local plastic bag ordinances-in Los Angeles County and the City of San Jose- that will have a major impact on plastic bag pollution in the state. 2011 is off to an equally great start. The Marin County Board of Supervisors and Santa Monica City Council both passed a plastic bag ban ordinance unanimously today.
Marin County residents use an estimated 138 million bags a year, while Santa Monica residents use approximately 26 million bags a year. Both Marin County and the City of Santa Monica have been working toward a proposed single-use plastic bag ordinance for many years now, and today we see that hard work come to fruition.
You can help us keep up the momentum by making a contribution today.
