Feb 10 - Lakers Fans Score on E-Waste Recycling Day
Saturday, February 12th is the NBA All Star E-Waste Recyling Day sponsored by Haier in partnership with the City of Los Angeles and Electronic Recyclers International. This is the first type of NBA event of its kind, and will allow fans to recycle their unused electronics in exchange for tickets to the NBA All Star Jam Session which takes place between February 18th and 21st.
This program provides a great incentive to recycle old electronics, and also increases awareness about the e-waste disposal crisis in the United States. The EPA estimates that nearly 70% of the toxic heavy metals found in landfills come from e-waste. Currently, California leads the way in e-waste recycling legislation with the passage of such CAW supported laws including: the Electronic Waste Recycling Act, AB 2901 (Cell Phone Takeback and Recycling), and AB 1125 (Rechargable Battery Takeback and Recycling). The combination of these laws provide Californians a cost-free way to dispose of electronics properly at convenient locations around the state.
For those who also wish to get rid of their unused electronics and don't reside in the Los Angeles area, visit our website for find an e-waste recycler in your area, or check out our calendar for other e-waste events around California.
