Mar 10 - Calrecycle Holds Paint Informal Regulatory Workshop Today

The passage of CAW-sponsored bill AB 1343 (Assembly Member Huffman) created the Architectural Paint Stewardship Program, which is now going through regulatory review. Today, Calrecycle hosted a paint workshop to solicit public comments for the Draft informal regulatory text. Paint Care, the stewardship organization that would run the program, was also there to give presentation.

AB 1343 represents a compromise solution between the paint industry, environmental groups, and local governments. A similar policy was enacted in Oregon in 2009. The law requires manufacturers and retailers of paint sold in the state to develop, implement and finance a convenient program for paint recycling, thereby the financial burden from local governments to manufacturers.
