Aug 22 - Santa Cruz County Votes on Bag Ban Tomorrow

Share

***August 23, 2011 Update: The vote has been delayed until the next Board meeting on September 13. Stay tuned for updates.***

Another plastic bag ban is being considered, this time in unincorporated Santa Cruz County. This Tuesday, August 23rd, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors will vote on a single-use bag ordinance. The Board meeting will start at 9am in the Governmental Center Building (701 Ocean Street, Room 525, Santa Cruz, CA).

What you can do to help:

• Send a support letter to the Board, urging them to support the ordinance. Take action here--it only takes a few minutes and you can personalize the letter.
• If you're available, we strongly urge you to attend the hearing. Let your voice be heard in person and make a public comment. The ordinance is item #63 on the Board meeting agenda available here, and should be heard sometime before 10:45 am.

Plastic bag pollution is wasteful, harmful to both our environment and our economy, and readily preventable. Already 13 local governments in California have passed bag bans. Let's keep the momentum going!
