Jan 5 - Governor Proposes Moving CalRecycle to Cal/EPA

Share Governor Jerry Brown released his 2012-13 budget proposal today, which includes moving the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) to Cal EPA. CalRecycle is the state's leading authority on recycling, waste reduction, and product reuse and is charged of programs like the Bottle Bill, E-waste recycling, tire recycling, used oil program and many more. While this move will have little functional impact, Cal EPA is a good fit for CalRecycle, as other agencies within Cal EPA like the Air Resources Board and Department of Toxic Substances Control serve similiar functions.

In addition, the Governor is strengthening e-waste fraud enforcement by transferring five positions and $588,000 from Department of Toxic Substances Control to CalRecycle.
