Feb 15 - Millbrae Adopts Bag Ban, 19 Ordinances Cover 40 CA Cities & Counties
Yesterday evening the Millbrae City Council unanimously adopted its single-use bag ordinance.
Starting September 1, 2012, retail establishments within the city limits will not be allowed to distribute single-use plastic bags. Single-use paper bags that meet specific requirements can be sold for 10 cents each. Restaurants, non-profit stores, and dry-cleaners are exempt.
With this adoption, California now has 19 local bag bans for 40 cities and counties. This means 16% of Californians are living in a jurisdiction with a bag ordinance, and we expect this percentage to grow even more in 2012.
