Dec 18 - 3 New Bag Ordinances Adopted in CA, More to Follow
Local governments in the Golden State continue to say "no" to the unnecessary single-use plastic bag.
With 3 more jurisdictions adopting ordinances last week, the current tally for local bag bans is now 56 cities or counties.
Pacifica
On December 10, 2012, the City of Pacifica adopted San Mateo County's Reusable Bag Ordinance. Like the County's ordinance, the ban on plastic bags and charge on paper and reusable bags goes into effect on Earth Day, April 22, 2013.
Mountain View
On December 11, 2012, the City of Mountain View adopted a Reusable Bag Ordinance based on the San Mateo County's ordinance.
South San Francisco
On December 12, 2012, the City of South San Francisco also adopted the County's ordinance by reference.
We can expect more San Mateo County and Santa Clara County jurisdictions to follow in adopting the County's ordinance in 2013. In fact, nearly half a dozen have already approved first readings of their ordinances in December and should finalize adoptions during second readings in the next month.
