Mar 1 - Rethink Waste celebrates milestone in waste diversion

Rethink Waste of San Carlos celebrated a milestone on Friday, March 1 recognizing the strides they’ve made in waste diversion over the last 19 years.

Two million tons of recyclables and organics have been delivered to the Shoreway Environmental Center in San Carlos, for processing and transfer since 1994. These are two million tons that have been diverted from the Ox Mountain Landfill in Half Moon Bay, resulting in the reduction of approximately five million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions - the equivalent of removing over 743,000 cars from the road over the 18-19 year time period.

On hand for the celebration were Assembly member Rich Gordon, representing the 24th Assembly District, with RethinkWaste Executive Director Kevin McCarthy and RethinkWaste Board of Directors Chair John Doughty.
