Aug 12 - Mattress Recycling Bill Passes Out of Committee
SB 254 (Hancock and Correa) passed out of Assembly Natural Resources Committee today with bipartisan support.
CAW Executive Director Mark Murray testified in support of the measure, which would create a statewide mattress recycling program. Senator Loni Hancock, who authored SB 1118 last year, called the bill a "win-win-win" for the environment, business and local government. Senator Lou Correa called it a market-driven solution to the problem of illegally dumped mattresses.
The bill has the support of mattress manufacturers and retailers, as well as environmental groups.
The next stop for the bill is Assembly Appropriations.
