Nov 15 - Sac Bee Editorial Board Calls For Statewide Bag Ban

Citing the environmental and economic damage caused by disposable plastic grocery bags, the Sacramento Bee Editorial Board called on the legislature to pass a statwide ban on bags.

The Editorial Board praised the 88 local governments who have passed their own local ordinances in the absence of statewide action:

Local governments are right to take this modest step to help keep our streets and streams cleaner. But it would be far better if the Legislature passed statewide rules for what is a statewide problem.

Plastic bags cost local governments millions in clean up costs and endanger California's 40 billion dollar ocean economy. The Board is correct when it says:

The case against single-use plastic bags is clear and compelling - for all of California.
