Nov 21 - Arcata Approves First Bag Ban In Humboldt County
The Arcata City Council approved an ordinance yesterday to ban single-use plastic bags, making it the first city in Humboldt County to do so.
According to the Times-Standard, the ordinance will be brought back for a second reading on Dec. 4 and if adopted, it will take effect in February of 2014.
With this action, Arcata joins the list of 88 cities and counties now covered under similar ordinances.
Congratulations to Arcata for taking this step toward reducing plastic bag litter and the costs (up to 100 million statewide) related to clean up and management.
