Mar 19 - Three More Local Bag Bans Adopted in California
Yesterday evening, three more local bag ordinances were added to California's ever growing list...bringing the total of covered cities or counties to 103.
Two cities in Marin County, Novato and Sausalito, adopted plastic bag bans with a ten cent charge per paper or reusable bag in grocery, convenience, and drug stores. The ordinances used an environmental analysis and model ordinance from the Marin County Joint Powers Authority.
Walnut Creek, in Contra Costa County, also added an ordinance to the official list yesterday. The ordinance bans plastic grocery bags and puts a minimum ten cent charge per paper bag in all retail stores and restaurants. The council will revisit the ordinance to consider potential amendments in 60 days.
All three ordinances would be effective by this fall.
