July 31- Evanston, IL Passes Plastic Bag Ban
Following in Chicago's footsteps, the city of Evanston passed a plastic bag ban by a 5-4 vote this Monday, July 28th. Effective August 1st, 2015, stores larger than 10,000 square feet will no longer be able to provide single-use plastic bags at the point of sale.
The city is planning an extensive community education program before the implementation date, to help ease the transition for residents and businesses. Stores will be asked to report their compliance plan through an online form on the city's website.
With help from the city goverment with education and incentives for all, a smooth transition is expected for Evanston, the second city in Illinois to pass a plastic bag ban.
Help California do the same. Support SB 270.
