Jan 27 - Bag Ban Supporters File Complaint with Attorney General on Deceptive Signature Gathering
CAW, as part of the CA vs Big Plastic campaign, filed a complaint with State Attorney General Kamala D. Harris earlier this week. The complaint called for an investigation of signatures collected to overturn SB 270, the California bag ban, under deceptive methods.
Some of the 809,000 signatures turned in by paid signature gatherers to overturn SB 270 were collected under fraudulent conditions. Citizens reported that they were urged to sign the petition if they supported a bag ban, or if they didn't support a bag tax. SB 270 bans single-use plastic bags, and allows the sale of paper or reusable bags.
The referendum is currently under the process of random signature verification before it can be qualified to go onto the November 2016 ballot.
