June 16 - Bag Ban Bill to be Heard in Senate CommitteeSubmitted by Recycling News on June 16, 2010 - 12:38.
California's Plastic Bag Ban Bill has been scheduled to be heard in the Senate Environmental Quality Committee June 28. AB 1998 (Brownley) would eliminate a major source of plastic litter pollution by banning plastic bags at grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores. The bill would be a landmark plastic pollution prevention measure if passed. AB 1998 needs to be heard in a senate fiscal committee and be voted on in the senate and assembly floors by the end of California's legislative session in August. The bill would go into effect January 2011 for most stores.
