The Recycling Advocate - October 7, 2009  Volume 14, Number 6 

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that the Governor is threatening to veto all bills at his desk in order to coerce the legislature to accept his water package.  That means that this year's crucial recycling bills are being held hostage!  The Governor has until Sunday to act.  If you haven't done so already, please take the time to tell the Governor that he should sign the package of recycling bills.

• SB 402 (Wolk) will close exemption loopholes and increase consumer incentives in the Bottle Bill and will target 3 billion beverage containers that are currently being littered and land filled. Individual Letter / Organization Letter
• AB 1173 (Huffman) will help establish free and convenient recycling opportunities for the estimated 60 million fluorescent bulbs that will be discarded in the next three years. Individual Letter / Organization Letter
• AB 473 (Blumenfield) will bring recycling to the 7.1 million California residents currently living in multi-family dwellings without adequate recycling opportunities. Individual Letter / Organization Letter
• SB 546 (Lowenthal) will increase recycling and re-refining incentives for the 160 million gallons of used oil Californians generate every year. Individual Letter / Organization Letter

We need your help for the final push--the Governor has only 4 days to sign the bills. Please take the time to fax support letters to us which we will hand-deliver to the Governor's office.  It's crucial that pro-recycling voices are heard in these final days when the Governor is making his decisions--make your voice heard!
