Mar 30 - Paper Recycling Rate Reaches All-Time High, 63.5% in 2010
Last year, an impressive 63.5% of the over 81 million tons of paper consumed in the United States was recovered and recycled according to the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA). The trade association hopes to beat this record, aiming for a 70% recovery rate by 2020.
While paper continues to be a success story for recycling, other materials and items are not—including plastic bags and polystyrene. CAW is actively working on legislation to help reduce these problem items.
