Legislative Internship/Policy Associate [currently filled]

Californians Against Waste seeks students or graduates with a background in environmental issues or legislation/politics for part-time and full-time positions with its legislative campaign and special research projects.

Founded in 1977, Californians Against Waste is a statewide nonprofit, grassroots advocacy organization that works toward a recycling economy. We advocate policy initiatives at the local, state and federal levels and are the state's leading environmental advocacy group focused on waste reduction and resource conservation.

Responsibilities: The legislative intern(s) will work with CAW's policy staff. Tasks include organizing supporters/opponents of legislation, writing letters, fact sheets, and policy papers, and researching policy. Interns will have the opportunity to focus on specific projects including the development and implementation of a legislative campaign in support of various waste prevention and recycling bills pending in the legislature.

Skills: Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills required. Ability to work independently is essential. Computer skills including Windows, WordPerfect, and Internet are desired. Legislative or political experience is helpful, but not required. Environmental commitment is a must.

Work Hours: Weekdays, 20 to 40 hrs per week.
